The Story
Yves Montand (The Wages of Fear) plays Inspector Marc Ferrot, a stoic, methodical detective who is consumed and defined by his work. When he meets the tempestuous Sylvia (Stefania Sandrelli, The Conformist) and begins an affair, his hardline exterior begins to soften. But when Sylvia is later found brutally murdered, Ferrot suddenly finds himself implicated and in a battle to prove his innocence - and unbeknownst to him, his powerful boss (François Périer, Le Samouraï ) has taken a special interest in the case.
